Bel Johnstone is an Artist, Photographer, obsessive tea drinker, crafter, lover of nature and a busy mum.
Her art has been ever evolving and moved through many different forms of creative expression such as Illustration, Typography, Photography, works on paper and now more recently to painting. Her art style is a distinctive and unique hand-drawn ‘Dotsploration’ style, which is characterised by carefully placed dots to represent shadow, outlines or light areas of tone. Lately she has made the exciting move towards painting and has been experimenting on different surfaces other than paper with the move towards creating larger expressive dot paintings on canvas.
Photography is her second creative professional venture… from around the age of eight she always had a camera close at hand obsessed with capturing the moment. Her photography style is focussed on telling a story through the natural moments she sees and captures.
When she is not creating you can find her exploring the many sights of her home city of Melbourne with her daughter Ava, spending time outdoors in nature with her partner Marty or repotting and organising her 40+ indoor plants and just enjoying the busy life of their blended family.
Below is an interview with Computer Arts Magazine about my background and process.
